MEC MOHONO TO LEAD COMMEMORATION OF PROVINCIAL HARVEST DAY AND YOUTH DAY

The North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, DesboMohono will host the Provincial Harvest Day as well as Youth Day commemoration on 16 June at Driehoek Village on a farm belonging to a young farmer Mr BotlhaleTshabalala. The farmer is a beneficiary in the department’s Grain Production Programme and has planted a total of 185ha (30ha Beans; 30ha White Maize and 125ha Sunflower).

The youth and harvest day event will be held under the theme: “The Year of Charlotte Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society”. It aims to acknowledge the strides made by youth in agriculture, farmers and farm-workers; encourage farmers through the SHEP model to “Grow to sell” and to confidently use the digital marketing platforms; restore confidence in youth to participate in the agricultural value chain production, thus creating self-employment while creating jobs for others and to capture the “FETSA-TLALA” initiative/programme. The event is also meant to mark the end of the 2021 cropping season.
