North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, congratulates
more than 60 farmers from the North West Province who have been nominated in various
categories of the South African Agricultural Awards.

The prestigious awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 16 October 2026 at the
Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, bringing together farmers, agricultural
organisations, industry stakeholders and government representatives from across the
country to celebrate excellence and innovation in the agricultural sector.

MEC Sambatha said the strong representation of North West farmers among the nominees
is a source of great pride for the province, demonstrating the resilience, commitment and
contribution of farmers to food security, economic development and job creation.

“We extend our warmest congratulations to all the farmers from the North West who have
been nominated. Their recognition at a national level reflects the hard work and dedication
that they continue to demonstrate in advancing agriculture in our province,” said MEC
Sambatha.

He said the nominations also highlight the diversity and potential of the North West
agricultural sector, which includes commercial, emerging and smallholder farmers
contributing across various agricultural commodities and value chains.

“Being nominated for a national agricultural award is an achievement. We are proud of
every farmer who has been nominated, and we wish them well as they represent the North
West on this important national platform. We hope their stories of perseverance, innovation
and success will inspire many more young people and aspiring farmers to consider
agriculture as a viable and rewarding career and business opportunity,” said MEC
Sambatha.

The MEC further acknowledged the contribution of agricultural organisations, farming
communities, traditional leaders, agricultural workers and government officials who
continue to support farmers and strengthen the agricultural value chain in the province.

He said the department remains committed to creating an enabling environment for farmers
to grow their enterprises, access markets, adopt new technologies and contribute
meaningfully to the provincial economy.

The department looks forward to celebrating the achievements of the province’s farmers
at the awards ceremony and wishes all nominees success.
